The Story of the Four Minute Mile

A tale of courage and ambition; an experiment in mind over matter.

Directed, co-written and performed by Jake Oldershaw. Co-written by Gareth Brierley. Performed by Timothy Allsop, Janet Etuk and Jack Trow. Sound Design and Composition by Jon Ward. Design by Sarah Blenkinsop. Assistant Direction by Ellen Havard. Choir Direction by James McKelvey.

On the anniversary of the first sub-four minute mile in May 2012, the show presented the fascinating true account of how one dedicated amateur runner achieved what the world thought was impossible.

Taking place on the Iffley Road running track, where the four minute mile record was first made, this Playhouse Plays Out production invited audiences to walk a mile in Bannister’s footsteps, exploring one of the city’s greatest stories.
